Mental Grids
Through what we can perceive as an exercise of power, between marks left by ambiguous brushstrokes that involve, to a certain extent, affection and lack of control, the artist presents in a libertarian way the work Mental Grids, an ongoing series of action paintings, begun in 2014 and ever since in an increasingly effervescent fashion. Gaining surfaces of increasingly larger dimensions over the years, these Mental Grids emanate aesthetic emotions in the cadence of the eternal rhythms of Romulo Bandeira's life. Endowed with abnormality, devoid of apparent pattern, they are the offspring of the agitated rebellious schools of gesturalism, overflowing the artist's carelessness in explaining the abstractionism of his art, revealing here the pleasure of his exercise. In each of these works, there is an evident conflict of intentions that evoke processes of deliberate dissolutions, impregnated with the sensation of absolute filling of the void. Marked by the visual presence of emotion and often with explosive colors, they are executed with great speed, revealing the influence that abstract expressionism had as a reference in his self-taught training. It is no coincidence that, as if in an attempt at containment, the paintings are finished in grids that return to the clarity of the surface, exactly where they began. In this aspect, Bandeira declares his permanent attempt to order the disordered, to reverse the continuous movement of entropy in his mind, informing that there are principles, foundations and concepts in his planned chaos, in a visual organization that escapes any external representation. Thus, Mental Grids brings to its aesthetic repertoire inexhaustible poetic propositions that are continually articulated with spaces filled with colors and lines of different intensities, materials that the artist himself calls visual resources coming from the design composition shelves, diverse graphic processes, mixtures of paints, pigments, surfaces and tools, thus changing the observer's relationship with his expressive collection at every moment. Without being at odds with the rest of his work, Mental Grids brings the exact dimension of the multiplication of Romulo Bandeira's perspective contexts, presenting in the components of this work the essence of his eternal creative process.
