GRITO is the name of the solo that combines dance and visual arts with an adaptation of the text Monologo della Puttana in Manicomio, written in 1977 by Dario Fo and Franca Rame.
In this project, at the invitation of actress and producer Mariana Guimarães, Romulo Bandeira worked on two creative aspects. As a graphic artist, he created the entire communication identity of the show, from its illustrations to printed and digital pieces. As a visual artist, he designed the set and invited visual artist Nando Pontes to execute the proposal that was incorporated into the artistic performance, live painting presentations, which built the visual environment of the show session by session, over four months.
The play, directed by Antônio Guedes, tells the story of a prostitute imprisoned in a penitentiary asylum for having set fire to the office of a major businessman. The character tells her life story, revealing that she is fully aware of her condition and that, even recognizing herself as a marginalized person, she finds the strength to fight back against those she considers her oppressors - men.
To the sound of real and fictional testimonies from prostitutes, the scenery, made up of a large 36m2 canvas, was painted live, giving new meaning to the central theme addressed through images with strong references to the chaotic urban aesthetic at each presentation.
